Please share a memory of Orvel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SUNDBO - Orvel Palmer, beloved husband of Lydia (Del) Sundbo, passed away during the early morning hours of Easter Monday, April 9th, 2007, in the Herb Bassett care facility, Prince Albert, just prior to his 83rd birthday. Orvel, or "Orv" as he was known by his many friends and acquaintances was born in 1924 on the family homestead in the Lake Park area near Birch Hills, SK, to parents Daniel and Petra Sundbo. Orvel, along with his sister Edith and brother Selmer, were raised with a proud Norwegian-Canadian identity on the family farm. They moved to Prince Albert, in 1947. A year later, Orvel met and married Del, and he became a grocer, purchasing and operating "Orvels Grocery" in the East Hill area of 22nd Street and 2nd Avenue, where he continued to manage the business and serve the neighbourhood for 26 years. During this time a family was raised... a daughter Linda and two sons, Terry and Bruce. Orvel purchased a cabin at Waskesiu Lake in 1956, where he and his family spent many enjoyable summer vacations. Orvel and Del were active members of Messiah Lutheran Church. Orvel also kept busy, league bowling, coaching a girl's softball team, assisting with cub scouts, and the odd carpentry project. He so enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, and golfing. Following his retirement from the store, Orvel and brother Selmer, did some construction and house building, and together with friends, acquired a fly-in fishing camp at Nagle Lake, in northern SK. Here, Orv usually cooked for the crew, as his cooking skills were well known to his many friends. He and Del, travelled, and migrated south to Meza, Arizona, for 14 winters. Orvel was a very kind and generous man, enjoying the company of friends over a cup of coffee, or meeting new people. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends and acquaintances. His last years... Orvel fell victim to Alzheimer disease. His family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at Herb Bassett, for their professional care, understanding, and kindness shown - too numerous to mention, thank-you all. Pre-deceased by his parents and brother Selmer and his brother-in-law Jack Akers. Orvel is survived by his wife Del; daughter Linda (Philip) Levesque of Prince Albert; sons Terry (Lorrie) Sundbo of Bridgewater, NS and Bruce (Gloria) Sundbo of Invermere BC; grandchildren Renai, and Ryan Tanner; step-grandchildren Mark, Janice, Barbra, and Michael; sister Edith Akers; sisters-in-law Eileen Sundbo and Margaret (Wilf) Berrow; brothers-in-law Neils Thomsen, Carl Meyer and Edward Meyer as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1796 - 15 Avenue East, with Pastor Dan Haugen officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director. Service Details Thursday, April 12th, 2007, 2:00pm, Messiah Lutheran Church Service Information
