Obituary of Margaret Joy McLeod
Margaret “Joy” McLeod
October 5, 1935 ~ August 31, 2021
With family at her side and surrounded by love, Joy McLeod passed from this world on August 31, 2021. She was a much loved and loving wife, mother, Grannie, and great grandmother.
Joy was born and raised in Saskatoon with a few years spent living in Vancouver and Ontario as her father moved for his work in finance.
After a year living and working in London, England, and then returning to work at CFQC in Saskatoon, Joy moved to Prince Albert to work at CKBI as a continuity writer. It was there that one day a tall, dark, and handsome man walked into CKBI with some advertising for the Co-op. Mom was immediately smitten and asked Dad out on a date.
Mom and Dad enjoyed sixty years together before Dad's passing last year. They spent their best years together on the farm. All of those harvest suppers in the field and the fried chicken are a loving legacy.
Mom was often at Dad's side in Co-op, church, and political meetings and she worked many years in a government office. Mom and Dad shared a strong belief and commitment in giving to others and the community. This resulted in many lifelong friendships. Mom also had a strong love of music and shared her voice in the church choir.
Through the years, Mom was always cooking and baking and tending her very large garden. She loved baking oatmeal cookies and date squares for Dad, and frog eye cookies and rhubarb sour cream pie for the grandchildren, and always had raspberry jam in the freezer to send home. Mom loved Sunday brunches with family and friends and the backyard picnics were always a highlight for the grandkids.
Mom loved her family and her border collies and her birds, especially the hummingbirds, and watching planes fly over. She was a rowdy PA Raiders hockey fan.
Mom, thank you for all the beautiful memories.
Joy is survived by her two daughters Susan (Perry) and Ruth (Jeff); grandchildren Michael, Larissa, Nicholas, Ben, Katia, and Alixaya; five great grandchildren; sisters Ruth and Mary; and many nieces and nephews. Joy is predeceased by her parents Roy and Frieda Harding, and her beloved husband Neil.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Vic Hospital for their care and concern. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
