Obituary of Fred Mathiason
November 2, 1949 ~ January 3, 2022
Fred Mathiason, 72, passed away peacefully at home with his family on January 3, 2022.
Fred is survived by the love of his life, Penny, of 50 years, his children Karah (Diane), Tracy (Steve), and Garett (Regan) and their children in addition to his brothers Charlie (Barb), Wes (Pam), Harold (Debbie), and Vic (Shelley). Fred is predeceased by his parents, Ole and Lorraine and his sister Lois.
Fred loved sports - especially golf, curling, and hockey. He was a Prince Albert Raider billet dad for 24 years and attended as many games as he could. He connected deeply with his billets and stayed in touch with many of them. Fred competed at a provincial level in golf and curling but loved sharing his passion on the course and ice with his friends and family. Fred also loved playing Old Timers hockey and volunteering with SaskTel Pioneers and Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club.
Fred worked for SaskTel for 30 years then joined Boyd Agencies/Western Financial for another 20 years. Although he loved his work, the best part of his days was meeting with friends on the 19th hole and coming home to his family. Road trips to BC and “solving the world’s problems” with his kids made him so happy. In the final years of his fulfilling life, Fred loved nothing more than hanging out with his brothers, kids, and grandkids - Dane, Kate, Nicholas, and Lauren. His hearty laugh, loving nature, and strength will always be remembered and missed.
A special thank you to the nurses, doctors, and home care workers at the cancer clinic, hospitals, and at Fred and Penny’s home for the phenomenal care he received over the years.
