Shirley Lorna Ballantyne

1971-2023

Shirley Lorna Ballantyne, better known as “Wallawye”, was born in Nipawin, SK on January 20, 1971.  She passed away in Prince Albert, SK on March 27, 2023 at the age of 52.

Shirley “Wallawye”…meaning big cheeks as a baby.  She brought joy and sunshine to our lives.  Our Kokum Christie Head raised her on the Rez, and she grew up with good cousins, Jennifer, Sheila, Val, Leona, Juliette, best sis Gina, Lorna, and Patricia.  She was a beautiful soul, she never hurt anyone, she was gracious with a great sense of humor.

Shirley was in the Prince Albert Residence for a number of years.  Early in her young life, she was diagnosed with arthritis.  It progressed as she got older to Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Jerry Ballantyne and Tyson Laliberte; her siblings Christina, Jason, and Ryan Laliberte, Byron McKay, Sid Jr., Sean, Sterling, sis Mary Laliberte, Clifford and Val Lathlin, and Inez Michelle; all of her Laliberte family in Cumberland House Cree Nation and Ballantyne family in Montreal Lake, SK.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Sidney Laliberte and Eileen Ballantyne; her Laliberte and Ballantyne grandparents; her stillborn daughter; her sister Angela Eileen; her brother Sol; numerous aunties, uncles, and cousins.

The Wake Service will be held on Thursday, March 30 and Friday, March 31, 2023 at

Patricia Fiddler Residence, 242 Pemmican Portage, Cumberland House, SK

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Cumberland House Cemetery.
